We'll pick you up at 8:00 am from your hostel in the city of Cusco (3350m). We'll then take a 3-hour bus ride to Capuliyoc (2800m), where we'll have lunch. Afterward, we'll hike for 3 hours to Chiquisca (1930m), enjoying the beauty of the Apurimac Canyon and the Padreyoc snow-capped mountain.
Hiking time: 3 hours in warm weather.
Day 2: Chiquisca - Choquequirao
After breakfast, a 2-hour downhill hike followed by a 5-hour uphill hike through the Apurimac Canyon. We'll have the chance to see condors flying above us. At the end, we'll camp next to the archaeological site of Choquequirao.
Day 3: Choquequirao - Río Blanco
We'll witness the sunrise over the Choquequirao archaeological complex, also known as the "Cradle of Gold" in English. Then, we'll visit the ruins of Pinchaunuyoc and descend to the deepest part of this mini canyon, known as Río Blanco (1900m), where we'll set up camp.
Hiking time: 6 hours.
Day 4: Río Blanco - Yanama
Early in the morning, we ascend to the village of Maizal (3000m), the most challenging stretch, with 9 hours of hiking including a portion on the Inca trail. From there, we descend to the community of Yanama (3530m) to set up a lovely camp.
Day 5: Yanama - Totora Pampa
A 7-hour hike through a marvelous view of the highest mountains, including the Salkantay Mountain (6260m). Many condors can be spotted flying overhead.
Day 6: Totora - Llactapata Ruins
Enjoy the original Inca trail during a 3-hour walk to the hill's summit, where the military ruins of Llactapata are located. From here, you can catch your first glimpse of Machu Picchu.
Day 7: Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes
A 5-hour flat walk through coffee plantations. Finally, enjoy the thermal springs and a 6 km zipline with 6 cables at an altitude of 250m and a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
Day 8: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
Early in the morning, we'll hike up the stairs for about 1 hour to reach the Machu Picchu Archaeological Complex (2400m), where we'll have a guided tour. The visit is quite delightful in an unmatched setting. Enjoy the architecture and the significance of Machu Picchu, which extends to the enigma left by the sky. After the tour, you'll have time to ascend Huayna Picchu or visit the Temple of the Moon. Later, we'll regroup in the town of Aguas Calientes before taking the train back to the city of Cusco.
